The Yi Home 2 camera is the successor to the first Xiaomi Yi surveillance camera. In addition to the new smart features, the new model is now available in Full HD. But is the new surveillance camera from Yi Technology really so smart and what about the data transferred to Yi Cloud?
More in this review!
Design and construction
With a size of only 122 x 70 x 59 mm and weight of 132g the Yi surveillance camera is relatively small and light. The design is simple and the small size makes the camera simple, so it can be positioned discreetly. The design is more reminiscent of a modern camera than a smart surveillance camera.
As already used by other Yi products, the construction is convincing. The plastic casing makes a valuable impression and the provided accessories are processed without mistakes.
Image processor and image sensor
Yi’s Image processor is Ambarella Cortex-A9 600MHz. Storage equipment amounts to 2GB DDR3 memory and a 1GB flash memory SLC NAND, using SD memory card slot and recordings can be stored directly on a card MicroSD memory (8GB-64GB).
The image sensor is activated 2.12 Megapixel CMOS by Panasonic with vMaicovicon Technology, which produces a detailed image even in low light conditions. The videos have a maximum resolution from 1080p to 25 images per second added.
The lens aperture ratio is F 2.0. In addition, the camera has an extremely wide scope of projection of 130 °. Video compression is based on the H. 264 Level 5.1 and MJPEG standard. An additional image enhancement is achieved with a 3D noise filter, 3D LUT and WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) colour correction, as well as HDR (High Dynamic Range).
IR night vision, WiFi and audio system
There are total 11 infrared LEDS (940nm) around the lens. In darker areas or in low light conditions, Yi Home Camera 2 automatically switches to night vision mode. This feature can also be disabled in camera settings.
For data transmission, Yi Home Camera 2 features a 2.4 GHz integrated WiFi module. 802.11 b/g/N standards are supported, as well as WEP or WPA2 encryption. About a two-way audio speech system can be taken and reproduced.
Power Supply & Application
The electricity takes the security camera Yi over the closed AC adaptor with USB cable. This solution is comfortable because an arbitrarily long USB cable can be used. Even the power adapter is identical to that of a smartphone, which is why it can be easily replaced. Less comfortable is the placement option. Because of the firmly mounted case, the camera can stand perfectly there, but the Yi surveillance camera can be connected only to the wall with an adhesive cushion. There is no screw driving capability.
For the assignment is an Android or iOS device required. First, the so-called “Yi Home ” App to download. Then, you must create a “Yi ” account. To do this, either sign up with an email address or use Facebook login.
You will then follow the necessary steps for the assignment. The language of the application is German. An additional output in the English language explains the current state of the camera.
To use Yi Home Camera 2, it must be integrated into an existing WLAN. WLAN data is transmitted through the QR code that you create with the application and hold in front of the camera lens.
The Yi 2 Home Security camera, currently cost’s less than 100 dollars from Amazon and many other well-known retailers. It is one of the many technological products that cost less than 100 dollars listed on the technology shopping recommendations website techodom.com
