At one point or another, everyone is going to experience dry, tired, scratchy eyes. Whether you’ve been driving all day, staring at your computer for a few hours, or spending time outdoors in the heat and sun, it’s not uncommon for your eyes to occasionally feel like they’re not getting enough moisture.

Use Artificial Tears
When you can’t seem to get your eyes to stop being dry on their own, you might want to try using artificial tears.
According to Dr. Richard Adler, a contributor to AllAboutVision.com, there are two different types of artificial tears: low viscosity and high viscosity. With the low viscosity, you’ll get immediate relief with very little stinging, yet the results may not last very long. On the other hand, if you choose to use high viscosity artificial tears, you can get a lot more lubrication but you might also have some stinging or blurring for a few minutes as the tears do their job.
Depending on what you’re doing and how quickly you need to be able to see clearly and get relief, the choice you make for which tears to use will vary.
Keep Your Eyelids Clean
One reason you might be experiencing dry is could be due to inflammation in and around your eyes. This can often be very subtle, meaning you won’t really be able to see it even though you can feel it.

While you’ve likely be taught that it’s important to keep your body well hydrated so that it can perform its proper function, you might not realize that this can have an effect on the moisture of your eyes as well.
According to Dr. Brian S. Boxer Wachler, a contributor to WebMD.com, keeping yourself hydrated can help to keep your eyes at the proper moisture. And if the area you’re in is especially dry, you can even try to add more moisture to the air by running a humidifier.
