GUIDE TO MOBILE SCAFFOLDING

On many occasions, tasks arise that require timely treatment and do not justify the assembly of a large scaffold. The alternative that satisfies these needs is in the mobile towers or making use of mobile scaffolding; however, the two are not really the same thing.

This article aims to present a simple way, and as a summary, the guide for the assembly and disassembly of Aluminium Mobile Scaffold Australia as an example, in addition, safety tips.

PRE-ASSEMBLY MEASURES:

There must be a Preventive Resource presence.

The Preventive Resource verifies that:

The area where the operation is going to be done is in order and clean. There are no materials, objects that prevent the proper development of the tasks from being performed.

To carry out this operation safely, operators must have and use PPE according to existing risks: safety footwear, hearing protectors (if necessary), safety helmet, safety gloves, and fall safety harness …

In the case of other subcontracted companies in the environment, they are informed of the work to be followed and the risks involved in the work to be carried out.

Operators ensure order and cleanliness when carrying out the task. (Do not leave tools or tools lying on the ground, respect passageways, etc.).

Personnel who assemble and disassemble the scaffold must be trained.

In the case of mobile work towers when work is carried out more than 6 meters high from the point of operation to the ground, the teams must have an assembly, use and disassembly plan prepared by an architect, technical architect, Engineer or technical engineer.

A plan of assembly, use and disassembly must always be carried out when installing outside, on roofs, domes, or upper structures whose distance between the level of support and the level of the ground or soil exceeds 24 meters of height.

Establish measures to avoid, reduce and control the risks arising from the site and the usage of scaffolding

Inspections of the scaffolding

Inspections that must be carried out on the scaffolding are the following:

Periodically, carryout inspections in accordance with the provisions of the employer, depending on the results of the risk assessment, or because it can be established by some standard of legal or conventional rank

After any modification, not only of the scaffolding itself but of the conditions of the environment or its uses, period of non-use, exposure to the weather, seismic shocks, or any other circumstance that could have affected its resistance or stability, an inspection is required, and the results of these inspections should be documented.

The scaffolding inspection must be carried out by a person with a university education (in building architect, technical architect, engineer, and technical engineer, according to their competences and specialties).

Delimit the work area by signaling, restrict staff access

In the case of fixed tubular scaffolding, prior to assembly, a terrain survey should be made to determine the most suitable place for support. In no case should you rely on unstable surfaces.

In the case of mobile work towers, these should only be mounted on smooth surfaces, with a maximum slope of 2%.

ASSEMBLY AND DISASSEMBLY :

The assembly, use, and disassembly of the tubular scaffolding or mobile work towers are carried out at all times following the manufacturer’s instructions. Otherwise, follow the instructions of the assembly, use, and disassembly plan prepared by a competent technician.

The assembly and disassembly of these structures will be entrusted to trained personnel, who know the risks inherent in these actions.

Working platform safety

Work platforms located more than 2meter high; they must be protected by a metal railing with a minimum height of 1 meter with the intermediate bar at the height of 50 cm. and skirting board with a minimum height of 15 cm. This protection must be present throughout the perimeter of mobile work towers.

When working together with vertical walls, both with tubular scaffolding and mobile work towers, the protection on their sides can be eliminated provided that the separation between the platform and the wall does not exceed 20 cm.

Working platform specifications

Railings must withstand at least a load of 150 kg per linear meter.Work platforms must have a minimum width of 60 cm. (the maximum separation between elements is 25 mm.).Work platforms must be metallic or other resistant, non-slip material.

If they are constructed with perforated material, the maximum diameter of the interstices is 25 mm.Work platforms must have claws or interlocking devices that prevent accidental tipping.Work platforms shall have the maximum permissible load marked clearly and indelibly.

The diagonals ensure the longitudinal stability of the scaffold. They must be placed according to the instructions of the assembly drawings or according to the instructions given by the manufacturer.

Mobile scaffolding working instructions

Scaffolding is tied to the facade, must have at least one mooring every 24 m². on scaffolding covered with net-mesh, and a mooring every 12 m². on scaffolds without net-mesh. The moorings should be arranged regularly over the entire surface of the scaffold, as indicated by the manufacturer’s instructions. Moorings are checked and adjusted periodically.

The accesses to the platforms are made with internal stairs, with folding hatches on these platforms.Assemble the scaffolding support, for the distribution of the weight of the scaffold, depending on the scaffold load and the nature of the flooring.Verify the assembly of the first elements: vertical, horizontal leveling and that the elements’ fittings are correct. This verification must also be carried out throughout the assembly.

Leave the platforms, handrails, and baseboards secured at each level as you ascend the assembly; and also, the means of access: platforms with trapdoor and stairs. The railings should be mounted as the scaffolding is lifted. In the case of mobile work towers, they must have braking mechanisms that cannot be unlocked except by voluntary action on them.

For mobile work towers that do not exceed 6 m. high, the wheels must have a minimum diameter of 150 mm. For higher heights, the minimum diameter of the wheels must be 200 mm.When performing work on mobile scaffolding, safety devices must be used to prevent their movement or fall.

CONCLUSION

To perform work at height, mobile towers must primarily ensure a stable and safe surface. Aluminum mobile towers are ideal when scaffolding, with adequate space for tools, quick assembly for urgent jobs, the lightness of the tower and protection make mobile scaffoldings quite an attractive option.

Make sure the quality and precise design are according to the specific regulations, to take all the advantages that the Aluminum mobile scaffolding incorporate into your business, also guaranteeing you total security.
