5 Reasons You May Not Be Sleeping Well

When it comes to your sleep, it’s important to make sure that you get plenty of it.  Not only can it affect your mood by making you more susceptible to irritability, but a person who isn’t well rested is often less productive.

If you often find yourself feeling sluggish or not quite at your best, it’s likely a result of poor quality of sleep.  If you’re ready to take a stand and start feeling more refreshed in the morning rather than exhausted, then follow these tips.

Poor Quality Mattress

Often people get so used to sleeping on a poor quality mattress that they don’t know the difference.  All they’ve ever known is their bed, and don’t even realize the world of good sleep that they’re missing out on.

Having a good mattress can be a life changer, especially if you’ve never slept on one before.  Make sure that you choose a mattress which supports your back and provides enough comfort to ensure when you fall asleep that you stay asleep.

Buying a mattress may be a significant investment. However, it’s something which will last you years and years.  Not to mention that getting a good night’s sleep is worth its weight in gold.

Stress

Often what keeps people up at night is staring at the ceiling thinking about all of the things that could possibly go wrong.  When you obsess and play scenarios over and over in your head, it can keep you up all night long.

As a result of stress, you can often find yourself waking up even after falling asleep.  Try to train your mind to relax before you sleep. Otherwise, it will affect your dreams and sleep cycle.

Noise

If you live in a place which has a lot of outside noise, it can keep you awake all night.  Make sure that you try to eliminate as much noise as you can by closing windows or closing your bedroom door.

If there is still noise waking you up, you should consider using earplugs or using white noise.  Playing something like recorded rain can be a soothing way to stay asleep while drowning out the noise.  Alternatively, you could turn on a fan which has about the same decibel level.

Alcohol

Although alcohol may make you fall asleep faster, it inhibits staying asleep.  When you have a lot of alcohol in your system, it can encourage you to wake up frequently throughout the night, hindering you from ever entering a deep and refreshing state of sleep.

You’re better off occasionally drinking rather than regularly so that you can be well rested rather than exhausted with a pounding head.
