Driving accidents claim lives all over the world. Some of the most common reasons for such fatalities are:Driving accidents claim lives all over the world. Some of the most common reasons for such fatalities are:
• Bad roads.
• Poor illumination.
• Drunken driving.
• Bad driving habits and so on.
However, thanks to ever changing technologies, driving accidents may soon become a thing of the past. Most car manufacturers do pay a lot of attention to safety norms and features. For instance, even a used Subaru Outback now affords the passengers and driver safety features such as air bags, lane departure warning and blind spot monitor too.
Of course there is so much to watch out for in the world of auto technology!
Cruise control
Cruise control is a huge convenience for a lot of people. But car manufacturers are taking this up a notch and offering more and more sophisticated ways in which a driver can enjoy this feature. For instance, adaptive cruise control will help:
• Warning a driver of unsafe distance from vehicles in front.
• Automatic decrease in speed.
• Alarms and signals for safety measures to be followed and so on.
Autonomous cars
This is an exciting space to monitor. It is all about making cars so smart that they do not need human drivers! Fascinating technology such as LIDAR or light detection and ranging, optical cameras and GPS are making such driverless cars safer and smarter. Major names such as Google, Tesla, Mercedes, Volkswagen and Ford are doing extraordinary things to make this technology real.
Collision warnings
Even the best driver is prone to occasional distraction. These distractions can come by way of conversations happening in the car, a hard to ignore cell phone ringing or even fatigue. But what if a car could help warn the driver well in time of an imminent collision and then go one step further by automatically decreasing speed or even braking?
Such alarms can go off for scenarios such as:
• Forward collision warning.
• Lane departure.
• Going over speed limits and so on.
Steering control
Steering wheels are also getting smarter. For instance, if there is a difference between the steering position and the movement of a car, the vehicle can make adjustments to correct this imbalance. Some car makers are also developing technology by which they embed sensors in the steering wheel. These sensors monitor the vital signs of a driver and if there is some disturbance detected, then they not only activate the car to make it pull over by the side but can also call for medical assistance.
Visibility
There are 2 things here – heads up display and illumination. Can you imagine not needing to take your eyes off the road for things like GPS navigation? With HUD, it is indeed possible. All necessary information will be displayed on the windshield. This technology is closely linked with autonomous cars. Then there are smart wipers and headlights. Wiper blades get triggered automatically if there is rain. Adaptive headlights move with the steering column so there is better visibility around corners. With such fluidity, a driver can easily see all necessary details on the road ahead.
IoT
Internet of Things or IoT as it is known is fast assisting and making driving safe. IoT is still in the initial stages and the true power will be known when it starts using the technology to help drivers stay away from problem areas, bypassing traffic jams etc. The prospects are immense and it is believed that IoT will revolutionize the way we drive in the near future.
Adaptive Cruise Control
When we are out on long drives, we sometimes feel that we need to take our foot of the pedal and relax a bit. We have the cruise control option but our highways are not always straight and if there is a curve then the chances of accidents are high. Hence the concept of adaptive cruise control. With adaptive cruise control you can sit and relax while the car cruises forward. If the car in front of you slows down, your car will also slow down as it will match the speed of that car. ACC uses radar technology to keep you and your car safe. When the car lowers the speed you can take control and maneuver the car safely.
