Enjoying a day out at the park

In the course of our daily lives, we often encounter stress that can make them less enjoyable. While many travel to blow off this steam, it isn’t always possible to get up and leave where you live.

Fortunately, there are places in our communities that can help us relax and unwind – making the most of the best natural features found within city limits, parks allow us to step out of the hustle and bustle and into the healing surroundings nature provides.

Community-minded people like Randy Benderson know the value of having a quality green space citizens can use to unwind without having a spend a dime for the privilege. Through fundraising initiatives, he has helped to raise funds for a beautiful park in Sarasota, Florida.

Eager to make the most of the parks in your town or city? In this blog, we’ll share a few suggestions that will help you enjoy a relaxing day out.

Go for a run

Of all the techniques that can minimize the level of stress in our lives, getting regular exercise is among the most effective.

Many start their day with a vigorous jog, but others are dissuaded from doing this, as they are bothered by traffic, by the pounding their knees take on asphalt/concrete, etc.

By going on a run in a park, you will be able to trade hard surfaces and cars for trees, singing birds, and fresh air.

If you have a green space near your house, move your runs there and note how much better they get over time.

Head out on the water

Many parks have lakes, rivers, or ocean frontage within their bounds. If you have experience piloting a watercraft or know someone who does, renting one and getting out on the water can make for an amazing day at the park.

As long as you brush up on water safety, wear a life jacket, apply sunscreen to exposed skin, and keep an eye on the weather, you and your friends will have a time you’ll talk about for a long time to come.

Pack a picnic lunch

Often, it is just too nice outside to have meals inside. Instead, hit up the deli section of a local supermarket, get a cloth you can sit on, and have a classic picnic lunch with your spouse or friends.

From pre-cooked hot dishes to cold options that include sandwiches, cooked meat, and cheese, you’ll have plenty of possibilities to pick from.

Paired with the right wine, you’ll have the ingredients in place for a blissful afternoon spent under the sun.

Bring your four-legged friend

Have a dog? Leash them up, grab their favorite toys, and head out to the nearest park. From walking them along nature trails to playing fetch with a Frisbee, there are many things you can get up to while you are there.

Check with your local parks and recreation department to see whether there are any off-leash areas, and you’ll be able to take off their lead and let them run around as nature intended.
