Tata Nexon – Interesting facts
Tata’s First in the segment – The Nexon is going to be the latest entrant in the sub-compact SUV segment, but it is interesting to know that it will be the first attempt from Tata Motors to enter into this highly popular segment. The company was until now struggling to grab a decent market share in the mainstream automotive segment. It was only after the success of its recently launched Tiago hatchback, the company decided to venture into the crossover segment.
Powerful Diesel engine – The new product will feature the most powerful diesel engine in the segment. The diesel variant will be powered by an all-new 4-cylinder 1.5-litre Revotorq engine, which has been developed specifically for this model. The diesel unit will churn out a maximum power of 110 bhp and a peak torque of 250 Nm, which makes it the most powerful unit in the segment.
Feature Racemo’s engine – Themodel also sports a petrol engine variant option, which will carry the same 1.2-litre Revotron unit seen in the RaceMo sports coupe unveiled by Tata at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show. However, it will be in a slightly lower tuned state here, which will develop a maximum power output of 110 bhp against a peak torque of 170 Nm.
First-in class 6-speed manual gearbox – Both the diesel engine and petrol engine variants will come paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. This will be the first 6-speed manual gearbox to be used in the segment for transmission, as other cars in the segment like Brezza and Ecosport currently sport a 5-speed manual gearbox.
AMT coming soon – Just like the Tiago hatchback, Nexon will also be getting an Automatic Manual Transmission (AMT) at the time of or soon after the launch.
Refreshing style and delightful cabin – The manufacturer has come up with a new concept to give a refreshing look to its first ever introduction in the segment. The exterior of the Indian-bound model replicates the Bolt hatchback with similar looking headlamps and the side profile looks stylish with curves at the right places. The sloping roof looks attractive, while the 16-inch wide wheels add to the sporty look. The interior cabin is designed with a highly finished dashboard and leather seats. The 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system comes equipped with all the latest technologies to assist good driving experience.
Bucket-like rear seat – The upcoming model comes with comfortable seats to accommodate four passengers quite easily, while the rear-seat looks like a bucket to offer more space to the rear passengers. There is a central armrest in the middle, which can be folded-up in need to adjust an extra passenger. So, the rear seat can offer a 3-passenger space to allow five passenger seats in total.
Highest Ground clearance – TheTata Nexon will offer a ground-clearance of 209mm, which is higher than any other sub-compact SUVs presently running in the market. The likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport, which currently top the segment, come with a ground clearance of 198mm and 200mm respectively
Tata Nexon is certainly going to be a sensational product in the segment, with its refreshing styling and a much-improved interior. With some of the first-in-class features and a powerful engine mechanism, the manufacturer can taste the success in the market quite handsomely.
The Indian-spec SUV will be offered in different variants and is expected to be priced at a much affordable price range starting from Rs. 6.5 lakh (ex-showroom) to Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
